SPORT

All our sporting activities encourage mass participation. Sport days are organized during the course of the season so that each team is afforded the opportunity to play a match. The Bon Mella netball league sponsored by Jan and Estelle Coetzee, was established for this purpose.

The sport program of the first term commences after the Colour Athletics meeting and

ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE TERM OF THE REMAINING TERMS

The sport organizer for 2005 is Alwyn Badenhorst

ARRANGEMENTS WITH REGARD TO LATE AFTERNOON EXTRA-MURAL ACTIVITIES

Due to the increased participation in sport and cultural activities we are compelled to coach many sessions which result in pupils having to stay at school till late in the afternoon. The following arrangements have been made:

Pupils must wait for their parents in the school grounds at die Aftercare area (particularly when it gets dark). The Aftercare is open until 18:00 and there is always someone in the vicinity.

The following arrangements have been made should a learner's parent or the lift arrive late and the child becomes anxious:

If it is before 15:30 and it is an urgent matter, the pupil may phone from the secretary's office at a charge of R1,00 per call.
If it is after 15:30 and the pupil has no telephone card and it is an urgent matter arises, the pupil may phone from the cell phone at the Aftercare Center. The cost will be R5,00 per call. The Aftercare is open until 18:00.

A telephone booth has been installed between the Aftercare centre and the administrative block. This telephone operates with the card system. It is advisable to purchase a phone card for your child. These are available at Telkom offices, CNA or Seven Eleven and it may also be bought during first break at Mrs Horn's (bursar) office.

We remind you that the school building will be locked at 17:00 - Mondays to Thursdays and on Fridays at 16:00.
The subway will be closed at 17:00 during the week and at 16:00 on Fridays.

REGULATIONS WITH REGARD TO AGES IN VARIOUS SPORTS

USSASA controls all sports. They determine the rules and regulations of the various sports - the school merely applies their policy. If our school does not honour the rules of USSASA we could be expelled, which means that we cannot compete in the leagues. This will be to the detriment of our pupils, as they will not be able to participate provincially.

The various sports rules as determined by USSASA are as follows:

ATHLETICS
Pupils participate according to their age groups. If a child therefore turns 10 in a specific year (from 1 January to 31 December), he/she will participate as an U/10 athlete, today known as: Athletes 10 years. 31 December of the previous year is therefore the cut off date. If a pupil is therefore so "lucky" to have a birthday on 1 January and he/she turned 10 on that date, he/she participates as an U/10 athlete.

The same rule applies to rugby and all other sports where age is a consideration.

HOCKEY
The Primary School accommodates the U/14 players. The age groups for the leagues are U/10, U/11, U/12 and U/14. Exceptionally talented U/14 players may play for the U/14 team in the high school to which they will be going in Grade 8, if the Primary School coach recommends this. Such a player must attend the U/14 trials at this High School and may not be refused the opportunity. Players taking part in U/13 trials must be U/13. The fact remains that the school's first team may include U/14 players. In future all U/13 and U/14 players will have to be in possession of a USSASA ID card as other schools may request to see this.

NETBALL
Pupils play in the age groups U/10, U/11, U/12 and U/13.

U/14 players may not be included in an U/13A team, but they may play in any U/13 team. The reason for this is, that the U/13A teams take part in a competition which determines W.P. Winners. U/14 players may not be considered for the U/13 W.P. Team.

RUGBY
Rugby is a contact sport, therefore no U/14 players will be considered for an U/13 team. They will have to continue their rugby career in the High School. Only U/13 players (by implication U/12 players too) will be considered for the W.P. Team.

All players who are older than the average age in their grade group, will play in the next age group. U/12 players may also be considered for the U/13A group as most schools only have an U/11 and U/13 league. From this year, schools may request ID cards. For determining age, please read "Athletics" for a detailed description.

CHESS
Ages for teams are not relevant. However, at tournaments players do play in age groups. Team players play according to ranking and skills level.

CROSS COUNTRY
Runners participate in their age groups. Participants older than 13, must run with high school pupils. High schools are keen to accommodate these pupils - we make these arrangements.

SWIMMING
When swimming competitively, swimmers must participate in the correct age group, e.g. a child who turns 11 in a specific year, will swim as an eleven year old (U/11). See below for detailed description.

TENNIS
Social tennis: These players do not play matches and therefore play according to their age groups.

Team tennis: Age is not relevant. Players play according to ratings and their skills level.

To play for the W.P. Team pupils participate in trials according to age groups. See "Athletics" for details.

CRICKET
Players are selected for teams strictly according to age groups. Players must be invited by the W.P. Cricket Union to participate in W.P. Trials.
