POLICY

To develop
independence, responsibility and life skills which are needed to attain
adulthood, under the guidance of educational partners namely the Governing
Body, the principal, staff and parents/guardians.

SCHOOL
AND SPORTS WEAR
 | The school
uniform is the pride of every learner and it must therefore always be clean
and clearly marked.
 | Clothing rules
as stipulated by the Clothing Committee will be strictly enforced. The
principal must be notified in writing, should there be any exception to
these rules.
 | No valuable
articles e.g. watches should be left in the cloakrooms.
 | No school or
black-soled shoes are permitted on the tennis courts. |

PERSONAL
HYGIENE AND HAIR
 | Personal
hygiene is of the utmost importance.
 | Hair must be
clean and neat and suit the occasion. Long hair (girls) must be tied and may
not interfere with the learner's vision.
 | Unusual
hairstyles, perms and colouring of hair are not permitted at an educational
institution for young children.
 | Colouring or
perming of hair is not allowed. Learners will immediately be sent home and
may only return to school once the hair conforms to the school rules.
 | Cultural
differences with regard to hair styles will be respected within limits.
 | Boys' hair may
not hang over the collar or ears and must always look neat. The fringe may
not touch the eyebrows.
 | The final
discretion concerning unusual hairstyles will be handled in consultation
with the principal and Management Council.
 | Neatness of
hair also applies to sport and school functions. |

JEWELLERY
AND MAKE-UP
 | No make-up is
allowed.
 | Boys may only
wear a watch and approved medical bracelet.
 | Girls may only
wear a watch and approved medical bracelet. Only thin gold earrings.
"Sleepers" or studs may be worn in the lobe of the ear. Earrings
with any form of hanging decoration may not be worn. |

FORBIDDEN
ITEMS
The
following items are forbidden:
 | Any weapons
(guns; toy guns; knives; sticks, etc),
 | Cigarettes,
cigarette lighters, matches fire-crackers.
 | Alcoholic
drinks, drugs, contraceptives or pornography.
 | Dangerous toys
and valuable items.
 | Bubblegum.
 | Foam, e.g.
shaving cream. |

SAFETY
 | According to
law, the school grounds must be physically safe for all our learners. Any
form of physical violence or verbal abuse is forbidden.
 | Bribery,
intimidation, swearing and molestation are not allowed and could lead to
expulsion. |

PROPERTY
 | All personal
belongings and school property must be respected.
 | Parents of
learners who damage school property are personally responsible for the
replacement or repair of damaged property. |

DISCIPLINARY
MEASURES
 | Learners who
transgress the school rules will be issued with a work report. The
transgression will be indicated and the parent/guardian must please sign
receipt thereof. After three transgressions the learner will be required to
report to the grade head. The consequences will be to attend a detention
class on a Saturday afternoon from 14:00 to 16:00.
 | The parent and
teachers are regarded as educational partners and we therefore rely on your
co-operation.
 | Parents may
liaise with the grade head when necessary. Serious offences are referred to
the principal, parents and Governing Body.
 | Where
necessary he/she will be given the guidance required to rectify his/her
problem. Parents/guardians are always part of this process. |

CONDUCT
OF LEARNERS
 | Learners must
attend school during the stipulated school hours. During these hours a
learner may not be absent from class nor may he/she leave the school
premises without the permission of the principal.
 | While a
learner is under the supervision of the school, he/she may not physically
threaten or endanger a fellow pupil, nor may he/she have any dangerous
objects or substances in his/her possession.
 | No learner may
smoke or be in possession of any drugs, alcohol or undesirable material, nor
may he/she provide other pupils with such material.
 | School
property or the property of others, may not be damaged, defaced of spoiled
in any manner.
 | Skateboards
may not be used on the school grounds. Bicycles must be pushed and left at
the school racks provided. Bicycles must be securely locked at all times.
Protective headgear is recommended for cyclists.
 | No learner is
allowed in the school building before 08:00, or during any breaks, except if
it is raining or if an educator has granted permission.
 | Running or
playing in the school buildings, passages or on the verandas is strictly
forbidden. Ball games are only allowed in specific areas. Playing in the
garden and against the sloping walls is not permitted.
 | Learners must
respond promptly when the school bell has rung. No running or shouting is
permitted in the school building. Learners must move in an orderly and quiet
manner. On rainy days learners may sit or stand in school passages, but on
no account will playing of any games be permitted.
 | Classrooms,
passages, toilets, and playgrounds must be kept clean and tidy at all times.
 | Learners are
not allowed in the hall or on the stage without the permission of an
educator. Eating is not allowed in the hall.
 | No learner may
make himself/herself guilty of any form of misconduct towards the principal,
educators, administrative staff, parents of the school, or visitors to the
school.
 | Learners'
conduct outside the school premises, even during school holidays, should
always honour the name of the school. |
