Circular 4/2008 22 January 2008
Dear Parent
FUNDRAISING AND DONATIONS 2008
In the past, opinion polls have indicated that parents would like detail with regard to possible expenditure during the year. For this reason, we send a circular (circular 4) at the commencement of the year to enable you to do your financial planning with regard to the above-mentioned. Attached please find the planning for 2008.
Durbanville greetings
J.C. Swart PRINCIPAL
ADDENDUM A
PROJECTS 2008
1.1 Items marked with a * are applicable to the whole school, but with a choice. All other items target specific groups.
1.2 Items marked with # are only applicable to all boys or all girls.
1.3 Twice a term money for civvie days will be donated to welfare. In 2007 the money was used for cases with merit verified by the school, as well as the Die Burger Kersfonds and the Childrens Home.
1.4 Cake sales will be replaced by grade sales (no cake or money requested from parents). The tuck-shop will not operate on the days when grade sales take place. Grades (educators) buy products, which are sold to the learners. Learners therefore use their usual tuck-shop money to buy these products. Donations from parents will be accepted.
1.5 Profit made in Gr 4, 5 and 6 for grade sales will go towards educational performances. Gr 7s will use their money for a farewell gift to the school.
1.6 Projects, which request money, are usually initiated by committees for a special purpose, e.g. upgrading facilities. It promotes parent involvement and results in learners and parents accepting joint responsibility.
1.7 Photos (see end of May and August) must be regarded as a service. There is evidence that parents buy selectively and we support this. Children must be taught to make choices, so that they may realise that they do not have the right to demand everything.
1.8 An agreement (contract has been made with photographers serving our school. Procedures with regard to cost, number of photos, etc were negotiated.
1.9 According to a Governing Body decision taken at a meeting (Governing Body) on 14 August 2006, the sport committee of a specific sport code must take the initiative to arrange a tour and a business plan must be timeously put forward to the financial committee. It was decided that no player may be excluded from a team due to financial reasons.
