MATTERS
1.
SECOND
TERM : ASSESSMENT PROGRAMME
We hereby
include the second term’s formal summative assessment dates (Addendum
A). These dates are tentative, as several factors could influence the
implementation thereof. The examination will commence on 31 May 2010
and end on 8 June 2010. The reports will be handed out in week 1 of the
third term.
The
viewing of formal assessments in the class will take place as follows:

Gr 4-7 Afrikaans : 18 May 2010
(16:00-18:00)
·
Gr 4, 6 and 7 English : 18 May 2010
(16:00-18:00)
·
Gr 5 English : 17 May 2010
(16:00-18:00)

GR 6 :
NATIONAL ASSESSMENT 2009
As you
already know, all Gr 6 learners, do an annual external, national
assessment in Home Languages and Mathematics. The results are used by
the WCED to plan further strategies.
According
to the results schools are classified as follows:

Excellent

Good

Average
-
Weak
-
Extremely weak
Durbanville Primary School was classified as EXCELLENT in both Literacy and
Numeracy.
The
following results reflect the percentage of learners who obtained more
than 50% (pass mark):

The above
statistics indicate an improvement in both assessments. The results are
sent to all schools and schools are able to make interesting deductions
regarding certain learning outcomes and the learning programmes can be
adjusted accordingly. In all categories we are far above the average of
the circuit, region and province.
We are
very proud of the above achievement. We are proud of our educators and
learners – these excellent results indicate quality education and
learning.
3.
LIFE
ORIENTATION
We are
once again privileged to host a group of Stellenbosch students on
Tuesdays at our school. They are busy with a degree in Paediatric Sport
Science. These students do practical, as well as theoretical work,
under the leadership of Mrs Cobie Vermeulen, who is also responsible for
the development and improvement of LO4 (practical P.T. periods). During
the past term, Mrs Vermeulen, as well as the students and the involved
L.O. educators, assessed all the learners’ physical skills. Early next
term, you will receive an assessment record in this regard. Mrs
Vermeulen, has amongst others, a master’s degree in Rehabilitation
(Motor Development) and she will present additional, big motor therapy
sessions during the second term to identified learners. Although these
sessions will take place during school hours, the cost thereof will be
the parent’s responsibility. Mrs Vermeulen, together with the class
educator, will identify the learners who will benefit from this and
parents will be informed. The additional, big, motor development
sessions are not compulsory, but we would like to encourage learners who
have been identified, to participate in this programme as lack of big
motor skills often influences other aspects of development, negatively.
