Circular 10/2010                                                                                                 11 February 2010

Dear Parent/Guardian

WORK REPORTS

In future, all work reports will be sent as a computer printout.  Durbanville Primary has opted for the computer system as this enhances effectiveness and the consolidation of data in the school.

Detention will be determined by the computer system and as in the past, you will receive written notice, should your child be required to attend detention on a specific day.

When a learner is enrolled at Durbanville Primary, he/she and his/her parents sign the code of conduct.  The new computerised work report system will, as in the past, be applied strictly according to the school’s code of conduct.  The only difference is, that points have now been allocated for transgressions.  The point for a transgression varies according to the level of the transgression, in other words from less serious to more serious.  The point allocation will vary from 2 points for a lesser transgression to 12 points for a very serious transgression.  Please see the attached list of transgressions with the point allocation for the various transgressions as determined by the school’s code of conduct.  The learner will qualify for detention once he/she has 6 points recorded.  As in the past, this will be after three transgressions.

Should your child transgress, a printed work report for that transgression, will be sent to you.  You and your child must sign it and it must be returned to the class teacher the following day for filing.

This system must not only be seen as a punishment system, but as a system which leads to corrective action, self-discipline and guidance by you, as the parent and the staff.

However, we should take cognisance of the fact, that the majority of the learners never attend a detention class in their academic year.

We request that all our parents will support the disciplinary system as it will be to the benefit of your child and the school.

Yours sincerely
