Sedert Augustus verelde jaar beskik Laerskool Durbanville oor ‘n baie unieke nuusdiens nl. Archimedes Nuus.  Die nuusitem het al so ontwikkel dat daar reeds 20 episodes verfilm is.

Die naam Archimedes kom van die Archimedesklub by die skool. Die klub het verlede jaar 'n digitale videokamera aangekoop. Leerlinge het in die Archimedes klub die geleentheid gekry om met video material te werk en om dit self te redigeer.

The idea to film the children during their various school activities, and to start with a weekly news item started there. Newsreaders were chosen and had to read the news exactly like the real thing.  A newsreader is never used twice, therefore more than 80 children already had the change to participate in this exciting venture. As from the beginning of the year a recording studio was created in the computer centre of the school complete with blue screen lights etcetera. Archimedes news has its own freelance camera man in the person of Anthonie Bougas.

Chaka die “pug” is een van die gewilde omroepers en is verantwoordelik vir kompetisies. Chaka bied ook ons eie “National Geographic” aan wanneer hy ons voorstel aan sy interessante dierevriende.

Om een van die nuus items te redigeer neem ongeveer 8 uur. ‘n Tien minuut video-lêer gebruik ±2.3 gigabyte op ons hardeskywe.
